Gotta Love These Inspirational Outdoor Websites
by captkujo.com
December 23, 2010

At captkujo.com, our expressed goal is to inspire people of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy the incredible wonders of nature. From the obvious health benefits it gives us to the positives it does for the environment to how much it helps the economy, it's just good to get outside. In our quest to promote outdoor sports and recreation, we have highlighted all kinds of people, places and things that evoke awe and wonder, entertain and educate and are just plain fun. Of course the internet provides all kinds of great information, so we'd like to share some of the most inspirational sites, motivating people to get out there.

sevennaturalwonders.org Seven Natural Wonders is a non-profit website whose goal is to "protect and promote the discovery, exploration and enjoyment of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World." Not only do they foster a passion for these natural wonders, they also recognize and share information on other natural wonders by continent, region, country and other unique classifications. One interesting aspect of the site is that it allows visitors to vote on seven separate wonders for each continent. What are the seven natural wonders of the world? You have to visit the website to find out.

greatoutdoors.com Inspiration and information on camping and hiking, climbing, cycling, paddling, running, snowsports, travel and more is what GreatOutdoors.com is all about. The website "quenches your thirst for adventure through inspiring photo galleries and action videos, captivating stories, up to date news and profiles of the world's top outdoor athletes." The site is chock full of exciting features like adventure film reviews, stunning wildlife and nature photography, stories of Colorado mountain biking and Mt. St. Helens hiking. There are some great blog posts, tons of articles and a gear store, and up to date info on upcoming events and expeditions.

kidsdiscovernature.com As we have noted before, getting kids to appreciate just how much fun outside activities can be is often a losing battle. Today's children just have too many things keeping them indoors, robbing them of the benefits from exploring and playing in the natural world. That's where KidsDiscoverNature comes in. Started by a mother with a professional career in fish and wildlife ecology and conservation, she wanted to "pass my knowledge and love of nature on to my children and to others." The site has lots of great information, like the '8-Step Plan to Disconnect Your Kids from the Telly and On to Nature' and 'Hiking With Kids: What to Pack.' But the most inventive feature is the '30-Day Outdoor Challenge' which sets the goal for people to get their kids outside every day for a month. If you have a child who needs connecting to nature, try it.
